Michael Nesmith, often known simply as "Nez," was an American musician, songwriter, actor, producer, and novelist best known as a member of the Monkees, a pop-rock band formed for a television show of the same name in the 1960s. While often initially perceived as the "serious" Monkee, Nesmith's songwriting talent and musical experimentation proved crucial to the band's later creative control and evolution. After the Monkees, he pursued a successful solo career, pioneering country rock and multimedia formats with his Pacific Arts Corporation, which produced music videos and the cult classic film "Repo Man." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Monkees in 1989.
