Joni Ernst is an American politician serving as the senior United States Senator for Iowa since 2015. A member of the Republican Party, she previously served as a U.S. Representative for Iowa's 4th congressional district from 2013 to 2015 and in the Iowa State Senate from 2011 to 2013. Ernst is a veteran of the Iowa Army National Guard, having served for over 23 years and retiring as a lieutenant colonel. She is known for her conservative political stances, particularly on issues related to national security, agriculture, and fiscal policy.
