While not formally allies in the traditional sense of a military alliance, Russia and Iran have developed a strategic partnership based on shared interests and a mutual desire to counter U.S. influence in the Middle East and beyond. This cooperation includes military collaboration, particularly in Syria where they both support the Assad regime, as well as economic partnerships and diplomatic coordination. Russia provides Iran with military technology and nuclear assistance, while Iran offers Russia economic and political support. However, underlying tensions and competition exist between the two countries, particularly regarding regional influence and energy markets, preventing them from becoming true allies.
