The sky, as we perceive it from Earth, is actually the atmosphere surrounding our planet. Its characteristic blue color is caused by a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering, where shorter wavelengths of sunlight (blue and violet) are scattered more effectively by atmospheric particles than longer wavelengths (red and orange). This scattering effect is why the sky appears blue during the day. At sunrise and sunset, when sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere, the blue light is scattered away, allowing the longer wavelengths to dominate, resulting in vibrant red and orange hues. Beyond the atmosphere lies the vast expanse of space, filled with stars, planets, and other celestial objects.
